Lion Country Safari
Lion Country Safari park as founded in 1967 and is among largest drive-through parks in the country. The exact location of this park is Loxahatchee, Palm Beach County, Florida (just around the West Palm Beach area). This park is known as very first cageless zoo in the country. Lion Country Safari park was named by USA Travel Guide (couple of years ago) as 3rd best zoo in United States.
A notable group of British and South African businessmen was behind founding this safari park. They started it with aim of providing real safari experience especially to those families that usually dont get such chances in their entire lives. Originally, only lions are exhibited in this park. This is the only remaining park of this category in United States because all previously operated parks have been closed after remaining operation for several years.
There are more than 1,000 animals in the Lion Country Safari park that enjoy their natural wild life in a large fenced area. There is approximately a 5-mile roadway to enjoy safari adventure which is paved throughout this park. Visitors use their own vehicles to enter into this safari park after purchasing tickets.
They are free to drive at their own pace and enjoy viewing the park animals. Some animals, like zebras, rhinoceroses and giraffes travel through this Lion Country Safari park freely and even can be seen crossing in front of your vehicles. But, lions, who were also allowed to roam freely until 2005, have been fenced, because people were ignoring warnings about not opening car windows or door.
Opening car windows or doors is also strictly prohibited. Visitors are specially instructed to drive carefully and slowly. They are also warned about stopping or parking too close to wild animals in Country Safari park. Chimpanzee exhibit is truly a unique aspect of this park. The chimps live wandering between different islands because they use to live in an island system.
